On 30 August, Federica Mogherini, the  Italian minister for foreign affairs appointed as the new High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy andVice-President of the EC. She  will lead the foreign policy of the EU for the next five year startingon 31 October 2014when the term of the current Commission ends .

Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk elected European Council President. He takes over from Herman van Rompuy.The President of the European Council is elected for the period from 1 December 2014 until 31 May 2017. The mandate of two and a half years of the President of the European Council isrenewable once. Donald Tusk was also appointed President of the Euro Summit, for the same period.
