Following the elections held in the end of May, new President of the EU Parliament, new Commission President and new EU Presidency take the head of EU.
European Commission
Jean Claude Junker , former Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 1995 to 2013, candidate of the European People’s Party, has been nominated President of the European Commission for 5 years by EU Leaders by 26 votes to 2 (UK and Hungary). His nomination now needs to be approved by the European Parliament on July 16 during its mid-July plenary session.

Council of the European Union
On July 1, Italy takes over the presidency of the Council of the European Union until December 2014. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi will present the Presidency programme on 2 July at the first session of the new European Parliament in Strasbourg.

EU Parliament
Martin Schulz has been re-elected President of the EU Parliament until January 2017. He won 409 out of 612 valid votes cast in the first ballot.
