Italy adopted a national strategy on broadband aiming to reduce the digital gap. The Strategy for Next Generation Access Network seeks to develop a high speed optical access network to cover 85% of the Italian population with an infrastructure able to guarantee services above 100 Mbps and above 30 Mbps for all by 2020. This endeavor to create a future-proof telecommunication infrastructure will help reaching the objective of the European Digital Agenda – to better exploit the potential of Information and Communication Technologies, which falls under one of the seven pillars of the Europe 2020 Strategy.
